  3. Ethernet Host Prober:

  6. Probes each Internet address in the range starting with ``begin-addr'' and
  7. ending with ``end-addr'' (both ``begin-addr' and ``end-addr'' can be either
  8. hostnames or dotted-decimal Internet addresses) by forcing an ARP
  9. packet to be sent to each Internet address in the range specified.
  10. Up to 5 ARPs per hosts will be send at 0.25 second intervals.
  11. This program uses the operating system's ARP tables, and thus may degrade
  12. performance somewhat while running.

  14. IPF.1 and IPF.2 for ipforwarding: check for hosts doing IP forwarding
  15.  
  16. Probes each host listed on standard input to see if it is guilty of IP
  17. forwarding.
  18. Uses the ethernet interface specified by ``interface'' to send probe
  19. packets.
  20. If a ``broadcast-addr'' is supplied, it is used as the IP broadcast address
  21. in the probe packet, if omitted, the IP broadcast address is deduced from
  22. the interface address.
  23. Since this program is ignorant of subnets, the ``broadcast-addr'' should
  24. be supplied in a subnetted environment.
